Character: Cessily Kincaid | Mercury
Series: Marvel Comics; New X-Men
Character Age: mid-teens. ish.
Canon: Most people will have heard of Marvel’s original X-Men franchise, knowing the X-Men as a team of mutant superheroes whose One True Purpose is, apparently, to locate young mutants, collect them all together in a school for the “gifted” and train them toward using their powers for GOOD and not EVIL, thus proving to the world that mutants are nothing to be afraid of and are really quite useful, thankyouverymuch. One day, Marvel decided that it wasn’t as much fun messing about with the older established mutant characters any more, so they set about creating the next generation of young mutants to maim, torture and kill. Thanks, Marvel! Cessily Kincaid, code name Mercury, is a member of this generation of New X-Men.

On the day her mutant abilities activated, Cessily’s entire body transformed into a non-toxic form of mercury that she can manipulate into any shape, immediately identifying her as a mutant by anyone who lays eyes on her. Her parents reacted by promptly shipping her off to Xavier’s Institute where their neighbours couldn’t possibly see her. Despite her parents’ attitude, or perhaps because of it, Cessily is quick to accept and defend anyone who might be perceived as “different”. Whilst initially content to follow others’ lead, she has developed into someone willing to stand up for her convictions, even when that means telling her best friend to stop being a childish idiot. She is a loyal friend, an exceptionally malleable fighter and, ultimately, just a teenage girl who wants nothing more than to chill out with her friends, drinking coffee and chatting about cute boys.

Okay, lets just take it easy here. I’ve clearly interrupted you at a sensitive moment, and I realize that one thing you probably weren’t expecting to see today was someone’s head peering right at you when you’re way up here, especially while the rest of that person’s body is still on the ground. But look at it from my perspective - I’m walking along, and suddenly I’m coated with a fine layer of foundation and blusher, not to mention the vivid pink nail polish. It’s not like I can just brush it all off, either. Some of these cosmetics are really stuck tight, so I’m guessing you’ve got metal bases in there and right now some of those electrons are really enjoying getting to know my protons. Let me tell you, at the moment my body gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “Beautiful Colorful You”.

Honestly, I just wanted to get a better look at what was going on, maybe see if whoever was up here making busy with the make-up had some industrial strength remover in their collection. And there you were! Make-up aside, it’s not every day I get to see a kraken. Some days, sure, but not every day. And you know what, I really don’t think that you need all this product! Believe me, I know what it’s like to be the one who everyone looks at, and I can totally understand why you think that a bit of a makeover might help your image, but I honestly don’t think it’s going to work for you. Particularly not if you insist on keeping that color scheme. Yellow and blue eyeshadow together? What were you thinking--

Uh, fair enough, I’ll acknowledge that I’m probably not in the best position to be giving you advice on that right now. And if you could just stop waving your tentacles about in that vaguely menacing way, I promise to work on being more constructive with my criticism in the future. For the immediate future, though, I’m going to politely suggest that you back off just a little, because my hand is itching for some harpoon action and I don’t really think we need to go there...

Alright, I tried. But you know what they say! High levels of mercury can be hazardous to your health.

Voting went on here.
