needs_a_hg: (how do I deal with girls)

Cessily is... sort of a mess right now! Although she is getting better. Somewhere along the line, her life became something of a teenage drama. I’m not entirely sure how that happened, but it has, and she’s boiling in a pool of emotions and it’s pretty hilarious.

So, I have decided to write something about it for a couple of reasons. First, Julian’s player kept asking for an essay of some kind SO HERE YOU GO WOMAN GOSH. Second, I have had some trouble with these threads myself, and I wanted to kind of talk it out a little so I could get my head properly around how Cessily reacted, and attempt to explain why she had those reactions. And, especially, to get feedback because uh. I am occasionally having (unsure) moments here. THERE WILL BE TWO ESSAYS. This is the first, which is all about how Cessily feels about herself and how that perception is changing.

And uh. I don’t think I’ve ever actually essayed on a character before soooo this will potentially be very lame and disjointed.

all the fluffy feelings!
One of the most important things to realise about Cessily is that she genuinely does not believe that she is attractive. She does not believe that anyone could possibly want to date a girl made entirely out of liquid mercury, and they most certainly would not ever want to kiss one. Or be seen holding hands in public with one, for that matter.

Before her mutation activated, Cessily was an adorable red-haired, green-eyed, sixteen year-old cheerleader with a whole bunch of friends and doting parents. Her parents did not react very well to her sudden onset of liquidity, shipping her off to Xavier’s where she initially roomed with a girl who essentially ignored her. Not a great help to a girl going through a self-esteem crisis. Meanwhile, her parents also made her stay inside on vacation. Excellent parenting, right there. The only good thing in this period, and all that made it bearable, was that she met Julian and he fought for her and, really, gave her something to believe in.

In canon, Cessily does not really have the opportunity to have a proper "romantic" storyline. This is probably a good thing, given her canon. However, she is very keen on Kevin/Wither, and she is very forward in letting him know. This is not a healthy relationship! Kevin’s mutation means that anything organic that he touches will instantly decay. The way I see it, Cessily’s interest in Kevin is irrevocably entwined with her poor self-image. She is the only one that he can touch without hurting; therefore, he must like her. It’s really very sad. Yet despite this, he is completely uninterested in her and would rather gaze longingly at a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and most importantly, normal looking girl.

Cessily instantly recognises that her feelings for Kevin are not reciprocated, yet she persists in getting him on her team - successful! - and then getting him to like her - less successful! She constantly sticks up for him, and doesn’t let his later disappearance get forgotten by anyone. She does these things despite the fact that he makes no secret of his interest in Laurie, her former roommate. She doesn't appear interested in anyone else; all of her other relationships are purely friendship based. Although Julian spends plenty of time telling her that she’s a hottie, there are no romantic feelings there. All the dudes in her life are nothing more than her bros.

This has all made being in camp really strange. People have been flirting with her! A lot! And she doesn’t really understand why.

And then Ronan Nolan Jr came along.

Cessily first met Ronan after contracting a camp virus that caused her to temporarily lose her mutation. He flirted with her! And she flirted right the hell back because hey, he is an attractive Irish dude her own age! However, she was also utterly convinced that he only flirted with her because she was not made out of liquid mercury at that time. Cessily basically decided that, once the virus had worn off, she was going to hunt down this young man and he would no longer think that she was pretty, thus completely validating her own negative opinion of herself. GO CESS GO.

Unfortunately for Cess, being that Ronan is RONAN, he knew full well that Cessily was under a camp effect while he was flirting with her. Consequently when Cessily finally tracked him down, he continued flirting with her without skipping a beat. There was also mistletoe involved. Ronan... was Cessily’s first kiss since her mutation activated. They went to the soiree! It was fun! They danced! They talked! He said she looked pretty!

Cessily really rather likes him, but she doesn’t think that she deserves him. She’s not normal enough to hang out with someone like that.

What she would like more than anything is a girlfriend who she’d feel comfortable talking with about this stuff, but my schedule and timezone are terrible so it doesn’t happen. Which is okay, because she doesn’t really have that in canon anyway as far as I can tell. Unless you count Laura, which... okay well they did try girl talk that one time. It was not super effective. But Cessily doesn’t appear to have that kind of relationship with any of the other X-Girls of her age. I expect something may pop up with Pixie in later comics that I have not read because I’m fabulous that way. And Pixie’s younger so. Point stands. Anyway. In camp, Cessily started to have that conversation with Rogue but then nearly immediately realised that was incredibly unfair on Rogue and felt like kicking herself. Which I suppose she could actually do.

In short, Cessily’s image of herself has been pretty rocked by these recent events, and it’s all very confusing. She’s a strong character and very stoic, so she’s getting through ~all the feelings~ perfectly well, but at the same time she’s also a teenage girl who is dealing with this on top of all the other things that go with being what she is, having been through the things that she’s been through.

And then Carmela turned up in her closet and was all "hey where’s Ronan" and Cessily doesn’t quite know what will happen now. Clearly this is someone from Ronan’s past, and although Carmela claims only to know Ronan through her brother, Carmela is a pretty hot chick who is not made of liquid mercury, and who has a ~mysterious past~ with Ronan. Part of Cessily is thinking she should just give in, but thankfully the larger part of Cessily is the part which keeps on fighting -- it’s the part that kept pushing people to accept Kevin, so that he would crush on her in return. It might not be healthy, but it keeps her going.

So. That’s the background, that’s the teen drama stuff that’s been going on underneath other more serious things that have happened for Cessily and her people recently.

I think that’s everything I wanted to say. IDK. I think it’s pretty clear I don’t... think... much...

Part 2 will appear one day. In that I will babble dealing with such exciting things as fighting with Julian and making new friends and why Cessily sometimes needs an adult. idk idk.

Oh! I should babble things back to you, because in a weird way, Rogue actually kind of liked talking to Cess because she thought she could have helped her. Or...wanted to at least. Um...Cessily's history with boys kind of totally reminds me of Rogue's because of the way Rogue followed Scott around like a lost puppy even though he CLEARLY had eyes only for Jean. And same thing with the guys in Camp. When Wally and Julian called Rogue hot she was like...but I'm not...they must be joking those jerks (which is why she gets so pissy about it).

And once Rogue got over the deer in the headlights feeling, and realized that Cessily actually needed help and wasn't just babbling like Kitty did ("and then he said this, and I said this, and then he laughed, omg Rogue he laughed!") she kind of really wanted Cess to get the guy. Because she knows Cess is pretty. Like, Jean Grey pretty in her mind. But Cess is still really self-conscious and Rogue sees that because she feels the same way. She basically connects with Cess a lot more than she did with Jean. The problem is that Rogue really doesn't know how to help Cess, because she doesn't have any experience with actually getting the guy. I mean, she asked Scott out a couple times, but...it didn't work out either time. So she doesn't want to just say go right out and ask him (even if that might actually work in this case), because that did not work for her. So basically, Rogue is kind of like...thanks for talking to me, it's just not gonna get you anywhere. :/

BUT ROGUE IS ROOTING FOR YOU CESS! So she can live vicariously through your love life Cess is pretty and totally has what it takes to get the guy and if he turns her down, Rogue is willing to shank him in retaliation. :|b
